STORE REVIEW: DEZ’S DISPENSARY

January 24th, 2010

Living just off Toorak Road, South Yarra, not only am I am privy to the hustle and bustle of the fashion world right at my front door, but I am always keeping my eye out for new boutiques with a difference. And so it wasn’t long before the window display of Dez's Dispensary caught my attention and I was popping inside for a chat to the owner - Desiree De Brincat.

Desiree began her foray into the fashion industry with her own button dying business. She then turned her hand to working in the superannuation industry for ten years while at the same time gaining an insight into the production side of the textile trade from friends who produced designer’s garments.

Then it dawned on her - turn her yen for travel and her passion for fashion and design into her own store and start buying labels that were unique, different and appealing.

And while there have definitely been some learning curves along the way, little did she know that all those years ago something so small as a button could lead her to where she is today - running a busy and successful fashion business, rubbing shoulders with some of the world’s leading designers and being invited to Paris fashion week. What a journey!

So what exactly is Dez's Dispensary and which labels do they stock?

Basically the store is a showcase of women’s and men’s wear that stocks an extensive selection of international and Australian designers such as Hussy, You Vs Me, Texas Johnny, Nana Judy, Memo, Provogue, Keyng, Spykar, Status, Elly M, Carl Kapp, and LTB Jeans. Desiree also has her own label called Zed by Dez featuring heavily beaded dresses and tops.

Apart from fashion, Desiree also has a selection of interesting accessories including beautifully hand made rings, necklaces and chokers from India which are crafted from wood, semiprecious stones, beads and glass. The store also has glamorous sequined clutches, belts and sunglasses to go with any number of the dazzling dresses, skirts, tops and jeans that she stocks.

So whether you are a man or woman, get yourself down to Dez’s Dispensary and grab yourself something special to wear - you won’t be disappointed.

On a final note be sure to check out Desiree’s up and coming winter collection, featuring woollen jackets with fur trimmings, vests and other garments with jewel details. Oh yes and she may just have some Karl Lagerfeld in stock the next time you pop in!
