Bagging Baggy Skinnies
Written by Bronny
Flicking through a fave mag recently, I saw something so horrible that I was encouraged to wince and throw the thing across the room.

Might I add, I never throw magazines - never - especially when it’s a fashion magazine and in particular a much loved one!

Not since the silky lace up combat have I been so repelled!  Not in my magazine – it couldn’t be – I was unconvinced … were they actually saying Baggy Skinnies are good?  Yes you heard me correct dear reader – I said Baggy Skinnies, think Livvy in Xanadu teamed with her ‘bless her cotton socks’ rollerskates.  What next – raggy old headbands?  I mean I know the eighties are back in fashion but does that mean every tired out look that didn’t look good then – needs to be rebirthed now?

Maybe I had read it wrong, because in no way shape or form would I ever recommend anyone to ever wear this trend.

Notice how I left a whole line for that sentence, it’s because I want you to understand one thing about AskBronny.  The team at AskBronny looks to many fashion gurus, lets name a few - Vogue, Shop Til You Drop, Chloe, Gucci, Chanel, Jackie Onassis, Kate Moss and of course the Hepburn’s – Ms Kate and Ms Audrey.

But back to baggy skinnies, I am afraid to say that in my opinion this is one of those trends that looks great on models and horrible in real life!   Case in point (and I kid you not this is a true story), my friend and I were opshopping oh about 6 weeks ago in one of my favorite spots and I came across it – the baggy skinny jumpsuit, it was an all in one, black, cheesecloth, replete with plunging V neckline to the navel.  Now I pulled this item out and I laughed ‘it’s fabulous’ I screamed, adding ‘totally fabulous … for wearing to a fancy dress party’.  Now this is the same opshop that back in January I picked up not one – but two black and white striped ensembles that I have seen gracing the pages of many a magazine for multi dollars – my outlay, a measly $12.00 but that requires a whole other article.

Here’s the catch – you are going to see this style on some hot looking girl and you are going to be tempted to wear it.  Now, if you happen to be a hot model – then go for it girlfriend, you could wear a green garbage bag and still look great, but if you happen to me like the rest of the general population then my advice is steer clear.  This trend will probably create a whole new line of insults ‘muffin top’ when low jeans came in ‘camel toe’ has been around for years, you do the math and email AskBronny with your new names for this trend …

Now – with that all said and you still choose to wear this fashion then here are our 5 tips on how to wear this horrible feat of design well …

1. Fit
Don’t let them be tight in the wrong places – namely, if they cling to your bottom then you don’t have the idea of the trouser.

2. Create length
Wear them with a pair of high heels , otherwise you will look like you didn’t make it the bathroom on time – or worse, have taken to wearing nappies.

3. Balance
Balance the bottom baggy skinny with something that actually clings on top, creating a silohette, baggy on the bottom and baggy on the bottom = baglady.

4. Body Shape
Not advised for short legs, the crutch is low and if yours hangs low already – then you may as well introduce your ankles to your arse.

5. Confidence
If you are going to wear it – then wear it with confidence – head high ladies, you need to wear this look as though you wouldn’t dream of not wearing it!

That’s it, I know leave you to the baggy …

"Money has nothing to do with being stylish. It's about being born with that inner eye and having the confidence to convey a sense of yourself outwardly. You can't buy that. It's genetic." Sarah Mower, Fashion Journalist
