Finding a prom dress that is both pretty, covers the shoulders and has a back to it is indeed a task!  My advice is to look at gowns rather than ‘prom’ dresses, as most prom dresses seem to be off the shoulder, backless or low cut.

There are some beautiful evening gowns, however depending on budget you may like to simply get an idea of what you can get in regards to price and then do a little bit of research online.  Then you may choose to either buy the dress online, have the style you like made or actually go hunting for the dress on the streets. 

May I suggest you make a little checklist as follows:

-    what is the best style for my body shape
-    what is my budget
-    what colors look good on me
-    what shoes will I wear
-    what accessories will I wear

We can already add to the list that you are after something that covers both your back and shoulders.  So with just those two items as a guide let's go shopping - online!

Have a look at this beautiful Diane Von Furstenberg gown for inspiration. Sleeves and a back and in this season’s hottest color – grey.  Can’t you just imagine this on the Hollywood red carpet – perhaps on Nicole Kidman. Pricey but at least we are getting an idea of what's around.

One of my favorite shops at the moment is OzDesigner.com who also has some beautiful dresses for consideration specifically from Aussie and Kiwi designers for you to browse. Keep in mind that if you are in the States you will have to pay shipping on any dress you order internationally.

With that in mind, a Department store could be just the answer, especially as you can shop at the larger stores online and have whatever you choose sent to you, how exciting, almost like opening a pressy on Christmast Day!

Barneys.com offers some fab frocks, with another Diane Von Furstenberg dress catching my eye.

Bloomingdales.com also has a fab selection, try browsing through their dress selection for further inspiration.

Blueclothing.com is also another good one which ships just about everywhere, here's some more lovely frocks for inspiration. This shop also has a good selection and variety in price which could be helpful. Don't forget the black dress either, you can always glam a black dress up with a corsage to add color

Once you've had a good surf around and decided which way to go whether it be online, in a store or getting your dress made then it's time for fun.
