ANSWER

Dear Paulina,

How exciting – a party!!  I remember going to School Disco's and they were always so fun and of course it was a drama as to what to wear because I always wanted to look cool.

I think a great way to start thinking about what you would like to wear is to think of some gorgeous young celebs who always look fabulous! How about Mischa Barton and Rachel Bilson (both of The OC fame) for inspiration. They both always dress in a really cool way and I think you could look to them for some idea’s.

With that in mind - there are some great clothes out there at the moment, but I think for this kind of thing that there are a few options for looks to choose from. Just remember to dress for you and you’ll be on the right track straight away.

Here’s some ideas:

TIP: Click on the underlined word to click through to the image.

Shorts: Cute pair of shorts with a scarf woven through as a belt, roman sandles or low heels, singlet top with pirate themed stuff on it, gorgeous curly hair and subtle makeup
Jeans: tube jeans in a bright color, t-shirt with sparkly front motif, ballet slipper shoes or low heels, here's Mischa in jeans looking groovy
PlaySuit: This would be a really fun option! As you are young you are the perfect age to wear a playsuit and they look so funky, check out Mischa in this one doesn’t she look pretty!, some beads and roman sandles would be very cool with this
Leggings: How about a gorgeous dress with ankle or mid calf length black leggings underneath teamed with Haviana thongs or even ballet slippers, check out Rachel Bilson here – so cute!

You mentioned that you didn't want to wear a dress so it would seem to me that the options are either shorts or jeans with a top and groovy shoes or some kind of option with leggings underneath which then makes it look like you’re not really wearing a dress but still gives options! You can get leggings in Sportsgirl for a good price. Check out Supre and Cotton On as well for pirate themed tops and cool accessories to go with your outfit.

Last but not least, I know you're not keen on a dress but – would you consider a bubble dress, dress with pockets or even a rara skirt? They are so cute and look great on younger girls – more so than women in their 20s, in fact they were originally designed for teenage girls to wear. If you chose one of these options I would again go with a pair of leggings underneath which is still a hot look. If you still wanted to wear jeans – you could actually team the bubble dress over the top of the jeans, team with ballet slippers and a belt around the middle and hey presto – I reckon you would be looking pretty darn groovy for that Disco!

Also, visit TeenVogue they have some great looks, I found this one that I think is really cool, I love how she has used color in her outfit – what do you think?

Have a fabulous time and remember to enjoy yourself, respect yourself and that having fun with your friends at the Disco is the most important aspect of the night! Let the boys admire you from a distance I say while you look super cool and dance the night away with your pals.
