ALine skirt
Written by Bronny

Hi Bronny,

What is the best way to get classic cut clothes at a reasonable price when all the shops have followed the trends?

I'm looking for a black, above-the-knee A-line skirt for under $60 and they don't exist! Tulip skirts, pencil skirts and bubble skirts just don't suit me.

ANSWER

Dear Adeline,

Classic cut clothes do exist. Whilst larger outlets may be following the trends, there is always classic cut clothes available both on and offline. However, you do need to step outside your usual boundaries in finding them. If the stores you usually shop at only have the latest trends, then you may need to look a little further and perhaps try shops you normally wouldn't shop in. Shops you may consider not quite you might just have what you are after.

Regarding your ALine skirt, this shouldn't be too hard to find especially as this style is definately still in fashion.

I would recommend you go to the bigger department stores and shopping centres.

Alternatively if you just can’t find what you are after then head to a tailor. I think you’ll find that you can probably get a skirt made for within your price range of $60 at a dressmaker.

I kept a pair of suit trousers and suit jacket (both from two different suits) and then had a tailor make an entirely new suit for me from the two pieces, cheap, and looks fantastic! Kind of like being your own designer.

Here's a couple of ALine skirts I have found online.

How about this one from NoNonsense.com;

and this one from Norstrom.com a little more expensive but lovely none the less

And don’t forget there is always eBay to find what you want!
