After the clock stroke midnight way back in 1999, none of us knew what would happen once we reached the year 2000. Not even fashion itself could predict noughties style!
For Ask Bronny's final style icon's edition, we take a look at the fashion trends that you and me are wearing today! We also take a look at the style ions we all want to dress like – Sienna Miller, David and Victoria Beckham, Lindsay Lohan ,Beyonce, Kate Hudson, Kate Moss, Jennifer Ansiton.
At the start of the new century, hip hugging or low rise jeans and crop tops were a bit hit amongst teens, thanks to Britney Spears. Hip hop clothing, especially the baggy jeans look was popular and thanks to Jennifer Lopez's Sweetface clothing line, tracksuits became a fashion success. We also had Jennifer to thank for the silky combat, surely a look we will be forgetting in a hurry from the noughties - yick yick yick says AskBronny.
As with many of fashion's timelines, the 00s evoked fashion from other decades in particular the 80s. The boho chic became popular during 2003-2005 thanks to stylish diva's like Jennifer Aniston (remember her hair from the 2003 Emmy awards?) Kate Hudson and Joss Stone. The boho chic found comfort in clothes like ponchos and ugg boots. More importantly, the boho chic look was achieve by shopping in op shops and markets.
Skinny leg jeans and trucker hats were popular amongst fashion trend setters like Paris Hilton who made the Von Dutch trucker hat a fashionable accessory to have for those days when our hair just doesn’t sit right! Another accessory which became popular during the 00s was arms bands that supported well-known causes. The forefront of these was the yellow LiveStrong bands which, thanks to Lance Armstrong, helped support cancer. Others included the white Make Poverty History and pink breast cancer bands.
Now that we're in winter, fashion hasn't lost any of its style and this winter, boots are back! The humble boot is perfect with any outfit whether you prefer the long boot or short ankle ones, there is sure to be one that matches your favourite outfit. Jumper- style dresses are in this winter – team them up with a waist belt, leggings and boots and you'll have heads turning for all the right reasons! Oversized bags are also in vogue this season and big sunnies always look good.
The colours to look out for this season are grey, black, white and red. Cardigans and long pull overs with buttons and belt dressed with skinny leg jeans is a casual look you can see walking down any street. Scarves and beanies have also come back into fashion and if you’re out to make a bold fashion statement, why not accessories with scarves, beanies or even necklaces with scull prints on them.
If we didn't have style icons to look up to, where would we get out fashion advice? Thanks to stylish icons, getting the latest look has never been easier.

Kate Moss Uber style icon, arguably THE style icon since 2000. Setting trends it would seem since we first spotted her in that inaugral Calvein Klein campaign. Kate in the past ten years has really come into her hown style wise. With girls all over the globe attempting to imitate her every move. At AskBronny we even think perhaps Sienna took a fashion page or two out of Kate’s book. She’s just launched her own clothing line in London’s TopShop and it would have been only a matter of time before this beauty would be behind the catwalk designing clothes. Often seen in trendsetting clothes, she’s recently been spotted wearing a mini dress teamed with boots and a tailored jacket. She’s also a fan of the oversized bag!
Jennifer Aniston As our favourite and most stylish Friend, Jennifer Aniston prefers to wear natural colours, jeans, long skits and tank tops. She always turns heads on the red carpet , often seen in elegant black gowns proving that black never dies. Her hair one of the most adorned with many women copying her style – long, lustrous and layered locks. (hint: to achieve Jennifer’s do, invest in a good hair straighter like the ghd! Blow dry your hair before hand to get some volume and then iron away!) Here at AskBronny we often wonder if she will be considered the Audrey of her day? As she it seems never steps a fashionable foot wrong. Click above to check out Jen here with the hottest accessory she’s ever worn.
Sienna Miller She's ditched Jude Law but not her sense of style. This sassy and stylish icon is known to have said "clothes don't have to be expensive," and is often seen wearing gypsy skirts, ponchos and other vintage clothes that can be found at markets and thrift stores. Sienna is also very passionate about organic and fair trade clothing, even modeling a collection for fair trade label People Tree in 2003.
Beyonce She's a multi Grammy winner, an actress and even fashion designer! This bootylicious diva definitely knows style. Beyonce always dresses to accentuate her hourglass figure with dresses and A-line skirts. Her collection, House of Dereon (which is co- created with her mother, Tina Knowles) isn't available in Australia as yet but check out online if you can’t wait.
David and Victoria Beckham The most fashionable couple in the UK! David and Victoria Beckham, aka Posh and Becks know class, style and elegance! Together, Posh and Becks always look divine, often completing one another’s look. They’re not afraid to make bold fashion statements, especially David who’s been seen wearing a sarong! No matter what Victoria has on, whether it is a baseball cap and jeans or a D&G gown, Victoria never seems to place a foot wrong. Often seen in oversized sunnies, slogan T-Shirts, Toledo boots, stilettos and the mini, Mrs Beckham accentuates her best assets. In 2004, she began her first fashion line, VB Rocks which consisted of jeans and then in 2006 continued this with her own label 'DVD style' which incorporated even more jeans! In the same year, she and her husband, David, released 'Intimately Beckham', a range of his and her fragrances. David himself isn't shy about professing his metosexual side and has had more hairstyles than I can count on one hand! Influenced by his gorgeous wife, David is as much a fashion icon as he is a soccer star. He makes jewelry, beanies and even tattoos look good!
Lindsay Lohan Lindsay began her career as a child fashion model and style has never left her. It's been a tumultuous couple of years for Lindsay but somehow she always manages to look stylish. Often seen looking stunning on any red carpet whether it is dressed in indigo denim or mixing a silk mini dress with a jean jacket, Lindsay always looks stylish. Lindsay's hairstyles also raise eyebrows on the red carpet – she can pull off being a blonde, brunette an even red head and never seems to have a hair out of place! Another friend of the Kate Moss style of dressing we think.
Kate Hudson This yummy mummy's style reflects her nonchalant attitude towards life. Often seen wearing hippy and vintage clothes, this gal pal of Stella McCartney also knows how to glam it up on the red carpet, often in one of Stella's designer gowns. Probably her best fashion choice was when she wore the Valentino gown to the Oscars, she was simply stunning and became one of AskBronny's pics for style goddess!
There are so many stylish women of the past seven years Nicole Kidman, Elle McPherson, Nicole Ritchie, Mischa Barton, Jessica Alba, Charlize Theron and who can go past Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore who always look hot. Who do you idolise and emulate when you get dressed in your celebrity fashion?
Over the past ten decades, fashion has produced many styles, icons, fashion hits and even misses! Make sure you stay logged onto Ask Bronny so you can always stay stylish. Yves St Laurent once said "Fashion comes and goes but style is forever."
