Hi Bronny, For the last couple years, tops, blazers and jackets have been cut short. I have a long torso and the clothing waistlines are usually 2 inches above my waist. Not to mention the fact that I'm not as young (or thin) as I used to be. Ok, I'm a pear. A big fat juicy pear! And I don't like having the big fat pear section exposed. How should I dress?! Love Deb ANSWER Dear Deb Celebrate your curves! That is the first and most important piece of information I can give you. When dressing for a pear shape think of celebrities J-Lo, Shakira and Beyonce, they all have very rounded booties which is what a pear needs to love and celebrate about themselves. With regards to the kinds of jacket you should be wearing, I would always suggest a jacket that comes below the bottom as this will streamline your appearance. Jackets that are cut short, above the hip will emphasise your shape and cut you in half, making your top half appear much smaller than it is and vice versa for down below. Long jackets on the other hand skim this look. The person who dresses best for this shape is Trinny of the Trinny & Susannah ‘What Not To Wear’ fame. You will never see her in anything that cuts her in half. Long jackets, dresses over trousers, scarves the flow down towards and past the hips, wrap dresses, man style trousers, thin pin stripes, dark colors on the bottom with brighter colors on top. What you are aiming to do is balance out your shape. Invest in a pair of bootleg jeans, these will balance out your bottom whilst creating length in the leg. A push up bra is a good idea if you are wanting to balance your hip region with your bust. As mentioned darker colors are great for you in balancing out your body. With a smaller upperhalf of your body you actually can wear horizontal stripes as they will appear to broaden your upper body thus balancing your lower. The wrap is Queen! Try this style in dresses and tops – gorgeous. Finally, invest in a pinstripe suit or trousers – they really will add eons to your length! Til then, remember fruit is tasty – and pears in particular.
