Hi Bronny I have a "semi formal" occasion to attend in june. I have put on a lot of weight recently and need to know what I can wear without having my arms and shoulders exposed. I also have a tummy to hide. I am not comfortable with knee length dresses nor do I want it on the ground either. Thank you Michelle ANSWER Dear Michelle, It’s always an awkward moment when we look into the depths of our wardrobe knowing we have gained weight and can’t necessarily wear the outfit we would first choose to an event! It has happened to all of us at some time I am sure. So to best dress for the bits you mention – shoulders, tummy and length can I suggest that you try a couple of different styles. Lets address the length first, there are some gorgeous fifties inspired outfits that sit right in the middle of the knee and ankle, these outfits also look very glamourous on curvier women and with a sleeve that sits just between the wrist and elbow also hides your shoulders and arms. If you go for a VNeck with this type of dress and make sure it skims your shape you will be the epitome of fifties glamour! Keeping the length around the same another option could be (this time inspired by a sixties feel) to go for a dress that cinches in at the waist but then flares into an ALine, keep the sleeve again just below the elbow and again think of a VNeck to match. If you have a dress that you have chosen and simply need to look after the matter of your shoulders and arms, you can try a wrap of some sort or even a longer bolero style jacket. Both of these items will cover problem spots. To control the stomach area, can I suggest control top briefs? Yes, the Bridget Jones variety! They may not look so flattering when you have your clothes off – but trust me, when your clothes are on they will flatten a the tummy region and some have even said these types of briefs make them feel as though they have lost 5 kilo. With either style of dress I have spoken about you can go for a medium heel, this will lengthen the leg and give you some height which is always good in creating curves. Most of all, any outfit you choose to wear – remember to feel confident in what you have chosen, because as we all know – confidence is the best and most gorgeous accessory any woman can have. Love Bronny xxxx |
