Slimming Your Waist

Written by Bronny
Hi Bronny,

I'm 20 years old and I am 5 feet 10" tall. I feel like my midsection is wide and isn't proportional to the rest of my body.

I have trouble finding clothes that balance my tall stature and make my waist look thin and not the center of attention.

Please help me!

Thanks
Chelsea

Dear Chelsea,

Okay, so there are two things to work with here, your height (which is fabulous, many girls wish they were taller) and then you waist.

The things we need to focus on are giving you the impression of a middle / waist or actually highlighting your height and legs.

Here’s a few ways to do both:

To highlight your waist / middle section and balance out the rest of your body, you can do a few things.

For your waist

Wear clothes that have a separate piece of material for the waist, this will look like a band, around the middle and will actually split your chest and hip region thus creating the impression of a waist.

Invest in a thick black belt, you can wear this shirts, peasant tops, kaftans – anything actually when wanting to create a waist. In fact a great idea is to get a whole bunch of scarves and belts and to wear them any time you feel like you need to give more emphasis to this section.

You can also wear dresses that drop straight from just below the dress, this again will disguise the section you are concerned about without drawing attention to it.

Check out this website which has a whole bunch of different looks that you can try.

For your height

Because you are tall you can wear styles that perhaps other girls wouldn’t be able to. This includes the baby doll style which basically drops from the neck to above the knee. Whilst this doesn’t give you a waist – it does highlight your legs and height which takes attention away from the bit you don’t want people looking at.

For a more casual look, how about wearing jeans and then layering over the top of that some of the current very groovy styles including the pinafore, bubble dress and pocket dress. Team this with a pair of boots over the top or a pair of heels. Then if you want to make your waist look thinner, grab your belt or scarf and wrap it around your middle. This look, emphasises your height drawing attention to your legs and creating a middle section by splitting the two sections with the belt around the middle.

A classy look would be to wear a pencil skirt, that comes up right to the waist teamed with high heels. Match this with a shirt or singlet on top, whilst the dress will sit on your waist this look will actually emphasise both your height and slim the middle section.

Good luck with these looks and do let us know how you get on in the AskBronny forum – The Clotheshorse.
