From daywear to night
Written by Bronny
Dear Bronny,
If one is attending an all-day outdoor event, what should one do when moving on to a separate indoor event that evening (the same day), without going home to change in between?
Regards,
Ponderer

Answer
Dear Ponderer,
Thank you for your question and what a great question for this time of year as we move into the gorgeous Australian Springtime.

There are many options for this particular type of fashion dilemna that faces gals as the sun comes out and the daytime events start to take over our social calendars.  In considering the answer lets first identify a number of outdoor scenarios that often precede night time indoor events.

1. The Races

Spring Racing Carnival has hit Melbourne and much of Australia bringing with it the dilemna of what to wear!  Many of us frock up during the day only to dress down (retiring inside) once the races have finished.  For this particular type of outdoor event, my advice is don't bother dressing down when you go to your indoor event!  The number of women I have seen fishing around in their backseat pulling jeans on and a whole different outfit whilst their drunk friends try to cover them - who could be bothered!  If you wear something that can be dressed up or down then you won't need to change your whole outfit, simply pull on a shawl, cardy or jacket to turn the outfit into night wear.  This one is simple really because your day wear is already night time wear - so there is really no need to change at all.

2. Festivals

So many festivals and which ones to go to!  And now that I have a ticket what will I wear!  I've lost track of the number of festivals I have been to with girls dressed in skimply clothes shivering and cuddling themselves as the night time has descended.  If you are in a group then you should have your own spot at the event which is
fabulous for the night time transition.  This means you have somewhere to dump your bag, and here is the key to this answer!  Put something in your bag that is going to dress your outfit up.  So if you are wearing a denim mini, then maybe you need to put leggings into your bag to put on later when you get cold.  Equally good is the thong option, whip the thongs off at the end of the day and pull out the heels that again fit so easily into your bag and also happen to match your leggings - now we're talking.  Now all you need is to pull your jacket on and you are off to your night time event.  Wondering about what to do with your bag when you arrive at your next venue - that's what the cloakroom is for!  Grab your purse and the rest goes in the cloakroom until you leave.

3. Picnic

Quite often the outdoor picnic will extend to a session somwhere indoors with friends, if you have driven to the picnic then this is easy, simply put a couple of key items into your car to slip into later.  Heels to go with jeans to replace thongs.  A scarff to thread through jeans to funk up the look and  stretchy top which dewrinkles as you put it on.  Otherwise a pretty sundress with thongs for this seasons look is easily turned into night time wear with a pair of heels - very Audrey H and oh so chic!

With these three outdoor options in mind, lets look at some hot looks right now that you could easily adapt to a night time look.

- flatties / ballet slippers: look great with skirts, dresses, shorts and jeans, they are comfortable and easy to get around in.  You can wear them all day with your cute sundress or jeans and t-shirt.  Then at night dig into the bag and pull out the stretchy top to dress the outfit up.  Maybe even some kind of necklace (beads?) to jazz it up just a bit more.  We're talking 80s right now, how about being a trendsetter and pulling on that tube dress - food for thought!
- big bags:  ah yes, dumpster chic is in as promoted my Mary Kate, Sienna, Mischa and the rest of the crew and thank god, because it means we can carry our wardrobe around with us and still look good later that night when we dig around in it to jazz up our look.  Take a big bag and you don't need to worry because it will be your tardis, with everything in it you need to transform day into night.
- stretchy tops: coming soon to a store near you!  The eighties are back, off the shoulder stretchy tops are just the answer to squish into your handbag to pull on later in the night.  Stretchy top, skinny high waisted jeans and heels - hey presto, the 80s are in town!
- accessories:  keep some in your bag, a simple necklace or cuff for your wrist can do wonders to dressing up and outfit, or how about some massive gold hoops to thread through your ears.
- scarves: round the head during the day to tame your locks, around the waist later that night to funk up that outfit/

Okay, that's it from me on Daytime to Nightime wear.

Love,
Bronny
