Elegant Casual
Written by Bronny
Hi Bronny,

I’m going to a gala in Chicago. The dress code is "elegant casual"  What is that?

ANSWER

Dear Kelly R

What this means is that you don’t have to wear a ballgown but you are expected to look ‘nice’.

In other words – no denim.

Black slacks would be okay, but the outfit would need to be dressed up. I would regard this dress code as really dressing for a cocktail party.

As such my recommendation would be to wear a dress with heels or even flats.

But absolutely no denim whatsoever! Think of the style icons and what you might have seen them wearing when they were out for a spot of dinner with their loved ones. Fifties glamour perhaps with the likes of Jackie, Audrey and even Marilyn.

Apart from that, have a lovely time at your party.

Love
