Fashion Fixes
Written by Jane Stabler
Many of us AskBronny fashionistas will know that sometimes looking good is hard work. So we know better than most what a disaster it is when something unspeakable happens to an item of your favourite clothing.
Like your glass of red wine, or your friend’s Cosmopolitan. Never fear! AskBronny not only knows how to make you hip, we also know how to keep you clean.

Cleaning is not something that springs to mind when you think of the modern woman. Unfortunately for most of us, however, it is still a reality. And somewhere between our high flying careers, our blossoming love lives and our regular shopping and dining out, we also have to find time to keep our most prized possessions clean. I am not talking about your furniture. I am of course talking about your carefully constructed wardrobe. Lord knows when you pay a ridiculous amount of money for your Sass & Bide jeans, you want to know how to get any stain imaginable out of them.

Hence, I start my not so trendy, but very necessary lesson in fashion fixes. Here are AskBronny’s top three!

Firstly, did you know that clothes will last longer if you hang them, not fold them? Sure, some of our clothes we don’t want to last for more than a season, but for those classic pieces that keep on giving, take the time to hang them properly and avoid wire coat hangers! Not only are they the ugliest, they are the most damaging to your clothes. So if you do have to use them, wrap them in foam or use all those shoulder pads from the 80s over the corners. Wooden hangers are the best, and if you can spare the time, and the money to make your wardrobe match, having all wood in your cupboard looks great and your clothes will love you for it.

My second tip is for a universal problem. Deodorant marks. No matter how many ads I see with ladies pulling black jumpers over their heads only seconds after rolling a magic stick of deodorant on, I still don’t seem to have mastered the trick. Napisan have this wonderful thing called Napisan Oxygen. Make a paste of it, and leave on the ghastly white marks for 15 minutes, then wash as normal. Hoorah!

And finally, what to do if your clumsy boyfriend spills his beer on your fabulous leather Ballys. (After beating him with your handbag, I mean.) Beer can be removed from leather using glycerine, dry-cleaning fluid, a cotton wool ball and a cotton wool bud, and talcum powder. First apply the glycerine to the stain with the cotton wool ball. Then using the cotton bud, apply the dry-cleaning fluid. Sprinkle talcum powder over the area, and then when completely dry brush off.

AskBronny hopes these helpful hints will make those annoying but inevitable fashion mishaps and messes less of a drama. But if all else fails, and the thought of scrubbing red wine stains out of your favourite dress is just too much, the best advice we can give is get your credit card out and head to your nearest shopping precinct!

"Money has nothing to do with being stylish. It's about being born with that inner eye and having the confidence to convey a sense of yourself outwardly. You can't buy that. It's genetic." Sarah Mower, Fashion Journalist
