Hot Weather Work Wardrobe

Written by Bronny
Dear Bronny,

Here is Queensland, us working gals are already melting in 30 plus heat - I guess we have months and months to go of this kind of weather. WHAT DO WE WEAR TO WORK to keep our cool and our respect? And more importantly for us post 20something chicks. The boardroom babes can go aircon door to door with their car spaces, and the Gorgeous gals in their 20s can get away with sleeveless etc. Those of us somewhere further along the food chain in wisdom (nicer word that age!) and position in the org need to get it right too and look FABTASTIC at the same time. Could you give a few styling ideas for us. Especially should we need to race to the shops with the spring clothes as the summer collections are even more of shorts and tank tops... And my blacks are just about melting me away already (and a white suit aka David lawrence and Carla and a few others will probably only stay clean with pens etc until about morning coffee :) let alone surviving dropping the kids at school first. Thanks Bronny! The instyle book has a few ideas which might be able to be translated here for Aust but would love to share from your wisdom.

ANSWER

Dear Jen,

Well first of all can I say that many people would be wishing they were melting in the beautiful Queensland!!

But, I do understand your woes, feeling hot and sticky in the summertime can be just unbearable.

I actually wrote an article about this recently, and here are my hot tips on how to stay cool while still looking hot:

Take a Breath: Think of the materials you are wearing, wear fabrics that breathe and this will keep you cooler in the hotter weather.
Open toed shoes: Get your tooties out in open toed heels and sexy strappy flats, just make sure your feet are well groomed.
Skirts: In a skirt you're body doesn't have to deal with clingy fabrics sticking to the inside of your thighs, opt for a cotton, summery fabric and you'll be looking twice as hot while feeling twice as cool.
Hair Up: If your tresses are long, tie them back or keep them off the nape of your neck. Remember heat escapes from the top of your head so aim to make this part of your body cool.
Long sleeves and trousers: As crazy as it seems visit any extremely hot country and you will notice people arn't necessarily running around starkers, that's because the material actually protects your body from the sun and in actual fact keeps you cooler.
Be Color Clever: Don't wear black - the sun loves black and will drive down onto you boiling you from within. Opt for cooler colors like yellow which is very in at the moment.

And can I add to this list to invest in a couple of good dresses that do not cling under the arm, a dress is so easy to throw on, will still look stylish when teamed with a pair of heels and you can even wear bare legs, just make sure they are shaved and have a bit of fake tan on.
