Max Azria Dress

Written by Bronny
Hi Bronny,

Please can you help me. I have just bought a BCBG MAX AZRIA blue beaded tulle halter v-back dress (please google to see images). Can you help me select a shoe (at least 4”) and a coat or wrap to wear with it. Its for a wedding in March and the weather wont be that good.

Cheers,
Fiona

ANSWER

Hi Fiona,

Gorgeous dress, I’m hoping this is it!

Dress

The first thing is the dress has a lot going on in terms of detailing etc. This means whatever you match with it needs to take the 'less is more approach'. A plain shoe, matching handbag and accessories and then I think your idea of a wrap is a good one although if the weather is going to be cold I would wear a warm jacket to and from the venue.

With your choice of jacket, make sure it is the same length or just above the hemline of the dress and I think you could wear any long jacket as long as it is slightly fitted. Leave a couple of the bottom buttons undone or go for a jacket with only 3 buttons. This way people can see the lovely flounce on the bottom of the dress. Use this image as a guide, a jacket in this style with a color that matches either your dress or your shoes could work as well as the option of the grey in this particular jacket:

It’s a little bit hard to tell the true color of the dress from the image I have, as it actually looks more charcoal / grey than blue to me, however I’d take one of the colors from the dress and then match that color for the rest of the outfit.

I think you could pick up on the mettalics, however I think a blue / teal shoe could work quite well with this dress.  Here are two shoes I found both with a high enough heel that would look gorgeous and are suitable for colder weather:

Shoe 1
Shoe 2

I’d match a clutch or small bag with this in a similar color to your shoe, you can pick up a clutch for not too much and by matching the bag with your shoes you start to bring the outfit together.  Here’s a handbag I found that could work well with this dress:

I’d aim to do the same with accessories however because the dress has so much going on I wouldn’t go overboard with those. You might choose to put something in your hair that picks up on the shoe color like an alice band or you might choose a pair of drop earrings in the same color as the shoe and possibly a cuff, but this would be all, I wouldn’t go overboard and rather choose something that compliments the dress rather than taking the attention away from it.

There are a couple of options for the wrap, you could wear a shrug which is kind of like a bolero jacket but very short and you wear it like a cardigan. Otherwise you could go for a classic cashmere wrap. I think you could match this particular item with either your shoes or your dress. This wouldn't be the one I would put with the dress - however this image will give you an idea of what I am talking about:

Hope this helps and do come back and let us know how you get on!
