Clothes for my culture
Written by Bronny

Hi Bronny,

I am always keen to look my best, being from an asain culture there are few yes and no's with fashion for me. I am not allowed to wear short skirts/shorts/dresses or tight fitted clothes. I really would like to have a different look without revealing too much. I am a size 14, quite big boned, what would be right to wear for my shape? pls help!

cheers

Hi Coco,

Whilst you can’t wear tight fitting clothes there are still some fabulous outfits you can wear. The key to your look is going to be wearing things that are looser fitting and longer in the leg. First of all you can wear jeans.

Being a size 14 means you are completely normal! Most women are a size 14.  I would invest in some of the fisherman pants, these are trousers that are loose fitting and still look great. Check them out online at:

The next thing I would invest in would be a pair of jeans. You can really wear a lot of different styles. You might like to go for the looser fitting higher waisted styles at the moment, not knowing how tall you are, can I suggest that you make sure you get the right size in the leg. Here are a pair to use as a guide for what to buy:

Otherwise opt for a straight leg such as this:

You can also wear long skirts and dresses. The maxi dress has been very popular in the past year and is a look you can definitely wear. Simply add a cardigan or wrap to your shoulders so you do not reveal too much skin. Here’s one to give you an idea:

Another option for you if you are not able to wear short dresses is to put a pair of jeans under your short dress and then to add a pair of heels to give you height. The effect of layering will keep you covered up however you will still be able to look gorgeous. Here are a couple of dresses that would work well with denim jeans underneath:

Bib-Front-Tailored-Shirt-Dress
Oversized-Sweater-Dress

For clothes to wear on top, I would suggest long sleeved t-s in winter with cardigans and jackets. For summer I’d go with long sleeved kaftans.

Remember, no matter what your size or dress code restrictions you can still be creative with your wardrobe! Think about color and work with what you can.
