Hi Bronny, I am a 40 year old woman in the music industry. How do you dress rock/professional at the same time? Thanks, ANSWER Hi Mannie, Wow – lucky you! Lots of people would love to be in your position. First of all, because you work in this industry you can be a little more laid back with your clothes. However, it really depends on the environment, if you are a studio executive then you probably need to stick with suits and more tailored outfits. You can funk up your outfit however with the shirts and shoes you add to these staples of any work wardrobe. Go for funkier, brighter colored shirts, tshirts and slips even. For shoes - think couture and heeled and go for anything groovy, you can wear anything from leopard print through to green suede. If you’re on the other side of the industry where people dress down a bit more, you can wear anything from jeans through to slacks or even a dress. As a 40 year old woman the trick is going to be not dressing ‘young’ therefore I would suggest sticking with staples that always look great. Black tshirts with cool prints, blue jeans and cowboy boots, you can add to this big belts with cool buckles. You can also go for fitted shirts with again interesting patterns and designs. I'd throw a bit of vintage in for good measure. Studs work well in belts or on handbags. As for accessories you can really go for anything you like from Boho through to Statement pieces. Avoid pearls and small, dainty necklaces or bracelets. The key to dressing in this industry is to not dress like Britney Spears but rather Cheryl Crowe. Stick to this one simple rule and you’ll be looking hot as you rock! Love |
