Jacket with Dress
Written by Bronny

QUESTION

Hi Bronny,

I bought this dress in a deep grey by Velvet and can't figure what in the world to wear over it. I live in the SF area where it's frequently windy and COLD. Shrugs are not warm enough, but a coat looks bulky -- and my jewel-neck cardigans just don't look right with it, either.

Any suggestions?

ANSWER

Hi Carol,

This is a pretty dress. There are a few ways to stay warm while wearing this dress. Firstly, lucky for you opaques are in. So team your dress with a pair of opaques stockings. With regards to a jacket, I think it’s about the material and cut you choose to wear with it so as not to look bulky. You need to get a jacket that will sit just above the bottom of the dress, go for an ALine or slimline jacket.

I found a couple on this same site that you could play with, look at the cut of this one:

This style is also beautiful:

If you don’t want to look bulky, I would avoid the Cape style jacket, however here is another style that would look equally gorgeous.

Remember, you’ll be taking your jacket off when you get inside and that’s where a shrug will come in handy, so pop one in your handbag and keep the stylish jacket for getting to and from your location.
