Hi Bronny, My question is about the length of a woman's jacket or top. Stylists on TV makeover shows tell women to have the jacket/top length hit above the line of the crotch. I am age 52,5'8" tall, and wear a size 16/18. Is it really more slimming to wear shorter tops and jackets? Is there a right way to wear a long duster? Long tunic? Would you recommend leggings for my age group and size,or a different style of pants? Hi CJ, Well I have to say that I tend to agree with the stylists on TV that a jacket that sits above the crotchline looks great. What it does is create a difference between the top and bottom half of the body. Long jackets, unless they are teamed with heels and are belted in the middle do nothing to create length and shape regardless of height. This is why the trenchcoat is a fantastic item in any wardrobe, I would avoid anything too long. Unless you are very tall or not adverse to wearing very high heels a very long jacket that is not fitted on top will just make you look like a Cowboy or Stockman as we would say here in Australia. At 5'8 and your size you can wear a lot of very flattering jackets and look very stylish. I wouldn't recommend a long duster, they just don't do anything for a womans figure Also, at 52, you really want to be sticking with the classics, tailored jackets and trousers that create shape and length. I would avoid leggings and instead stick to wide legged or man style tailored trousers. Bloomingdales online have a great variety as does Target for size 16 and above. If you stick with the classics you really can't go wrong. Love |
