Whether you're interested in vintage clothing, geometric patterns or clothing as art, you can't afford to miss the Abstract Mode exhibition currently on display at the National Gallery of Victoria.
Abstract Mode – Geometric Fashion and Textiles. Level 2, NGV St Kilda Rd, until November 12, 2006 Featuring items of clothing dated from 1830 to 2001, and including such diverse items as an 1865 patchwork doll’s dress, an Yves St Laurent ‘Mondrian’ shift dress (1965), a 2001 Comme de Garcons jacket, and, my personal favourite, a floor length striped velvet evening coat (1933). Bold, brilliant, nostalgic and evocative – this exhibition includes works by such fashion luminaries as Christian Dior, Emilio Pucci, John Paul Gautier, Valentino and Issey Miyake, and is a must for lovers of design and fashion history. |
