I’ve been thinking lately about how women come in all different shapes and sizes. It concerns me when I get questions from women telling me they don’t like how they look. Firstly, every woman is beautiful, no matter your shape or size. Secondly, it really annoys me that the fashion industry could somehow be a part of making women feel insecure with the obsession with size zero. As such, it has pleased me no end to see magazines like Cosmopolitan and Cleo supporting so called ‘plus size’ models and women of different ages in their fashion pages. The reality is the size zero’s of this world are few and far between. Models who walk the catwalks of Paris really are genetic freaks – naturally tall and thin and as such the perfect coathanger for a Designer’s creation. I would love to see all women supported in fashion magazines, old, young, short, tall, naturally thin and also curvaceous and rubenesque. After all, fashion is for everyone. Clothes are for everyone unless you are some kind of nudist. See yourself as a canvas when you get dressed in the morning – ask yourself – what creation shall I be today. Enjoy getting dressed – it’s not just functional – it’s how you present yourself to the world. And finally, love the person you see looking out of the mirror every morning, say to yourself ‘I am me and I’m beautiful’. As Carrie said to Charlotte on SATC ‘you should see you, you’re something, you really are – if you could see you – you’d want to be just like you’.
