Curves are back in fashion girls! Look to celebrities for proof! Even Kate Moss has gained a few pounds. We'd like to erase the word 'big' as a descriptor any woman uses for themselves. Big is Beautiful and Jane can prove it.
Not all that long ago Mika was dancing about in the street surrounded by a bevvy of buxom beauties spruiking the merits of big girls, and in doing so reignited a battle that has long raged in society and in particular, in fashion. Curves are in, then they’re out. Many think that Boticelli had it right – the celebration of womanly bodies is not a new thing, but everything is subjective, right? When Kate Moss first made her way down a catwalk and the headlines, the waif look took over the world. And not for the first time. Although we often get caught up in the “too thin” trend of today, Twiggy – who didn’t get her name for nothing – was the waif of the 60s, and all the rage. The trend of thin versus curvy changes more than underwear. What doesn’t change however is that regardless of which body shape is heralded at any given time, not all of us are going to fit into it. Its only ever a small percentage of society that will be part of the group deemed ideal. The rest of us have to go about our daily business in exactly the body we had yesterday, when maybe we were part of the cool crew, and today we are shopping for a hessian sack to hide our now massively out of fashion figure. Body size has always gone in and out of fashion like nobody’s business and its only recently that people have begun to loudly acknowledge that one shouldn’t be chosen over another at any given time. Being made to feel like you aren’t quite the goddess you were hoping because of the bone structure you were blessed with isn’t the ideal feeling every morning and the debate over to what extent designers and the media encourage this seems destined to continue for ever. That said, one of Australia’s major retailers, Sportsgirl has not put its head in the sand when it comes to this body shape phenomenon and has extended its size 16 range across the entire Sportsgirl collection. Sportsgirl has, where so many others have failed, acknowledged that regardless of body shape or size, the majority of women want to look fashionable and have access to on-trend fashions that wont break the bank. And the best part – there are two great ways to shop for these new additions to the range. The latest trends are available in sies 6-16 both online or in store. View the range here... |
