We think Andi Lew is fab. The Shopping For Love host, Melbourne Woman presenter, Dizingoff Ambassador and author of 7 Things Your Doctor Forgot To Tell You gave us a little one on one time. Here's our Q&A with Andi.
AskBronny takes ten minutes with Andi Lew to talk about a fashionable life...
1. What do you love about the fashion industry?
I grew up on the Gold Coast and the fashion Industry in Melbourne is impressive. It's always changing, artistic and the people in it are truly passionate about design.
2. And what do you dislike?
What's there not to love about 'dress-ups!?'
3. As a fabulous fashionista looked up to by other girls, what are your top five tips for always looking stylish?
* Always have great hair. I go to Tremayne in Toorak Rd, Toorak for a blow wave and style about once a week. If you have an event or party on, I think great fashion and style starts with great hair! * Beauty comes from within so make sure you get plenty of sleep, drink lots of water and live a healthy lifestyle so that you are looking youthful, radiant and at your best! I talk about this in my book I recently wrote with my hubby; '7 Things Your Doctor Forgot to Tell You' available in all good bookstores and via www.7things.com.au * Wear clothes that suit you and your body shape * Have great posture * You don't have to spend a fortune to look stylish! Just look for good quality and if you must spend a little more, spend it on shoes or a bag. Tony Bianco do great up to the minute fashion shoes at an affordable price.
4. We’ve all had bad days, left the house with our knickers hitched under our tights! What has been your worst fashion faux pas?
I was inspired watching the first series of 'So You Think You can Dance' and was filming the second series of 'Shopping For Love' at the time. Being an ex-dancer I saw some great dancer hairstyles and one episode decided to wear my hair in a slicked side pony, then plaited the ponytail and took it out the next morning so it would be all frizzy! What was I thinking girls?! Great for the stage as a dancer but it shouldn't be seen anywhere else!
5. Working in television you must work with stylists regularly, have you ever had a situation where you have hated what was chosen? What did you do?
I modelled in a charity fashion show for Sacred Heart one year and the dress was a vintage one that was being auctioned off. The designer did my hair in a rockerbilly hairstyle, with the quiff in the fringe and high side pony tail! It wasn't my 'cup of tea'. I'm not sure what's going one with me and these side ponytails.
6. And on the other side of the coin, have you ever been dressed and loved the outfit so much you wanted to take it home or kept it! What was the outfit!
Yes, I used to be sponsored by Nicola Finetti when I was presenting for CH7's Melbourne Woman. His dresses are amazing. There was one long Khaki studded dress I wish I could have kept and bought. I still can't stop thinking about it to this day! It was divine! He did some amazing things.
7. Not only a TV Presenter, you model too, can you tell our readers what the life of a model is really like and how you keep yourself modelesque!
I only even did modelling because I am an actor and sometimes I would get booked to do photographic stills that tell a story. I think it would be very hard being a model and being judged all the time only on appearance. When I have modelled though, I would try to do the product or clothing justice, look for its features and then my assets and show them up.
8. You hosted Shopping For Love what did you think of the outfits chosen by the contestants and could you judge a book by it’s cover?
Most men have no idea when it comes to shopping which is why I was happy to help out a little. It's really quite cute actually. I think what they want to see their date dressed in and what the date wants to wear is quite funny!
9. We all have bad days where we wake up feeling less than average. What do you reach for in your wardrobe on those days - what is your failsafe outfit?
Never black. When I am having one of those days, I get checked and have a chiropractic adjustment which makes me feel wonderful and then I avoid black because colour is so much happier!
10. If you could give your number one top tip on how to look and feel fabulous what would that be?
Read my book- '7 Things Your Doctor Forgot to Tell You' www.7things.com.au.
11. And finally, share with us ‘a few of your favorite things’ (these are the top things in your closet that you love and will never throw out!).
My Dizingof black long jacket that comes in at the waist with Japanese kimono fabric and buttons and has emerald green satin lining.
I love my Belinda Fairbanks crochet dresses in white and light blue. I've been wearing them every Summer for 5 years!
My Hudson jeans are a must with groovy back pockets and my Tony Bianco tan wedges with cork heels are so comfy!
I'm a hoarder, I keep everything and have so many dresses, but my best investment are a pair of black t-bar studded wedge Prada shoes that I bought for half price and wear with everything!
