Come fly with Jane, come fly come fly away! Jane looks at what to do when you are up in the sky and not a wardrobe or shop in sight. Can you get away with Uggs? How about flight socks? Fly with us as we delve into the fashion of flying.
There are a few times in life when many are tempted to throw fashion sense to the wind, but when there is still the need to be seen in public, AskBronny of course advises against this line of thinking! Tracksuits and ugg boots are fine if you are at home and not expecting to see anyone, not even your parents. One such situation where I see many a person succumb to their inner sloth is the aeroplane trip. When you’re intending to sit down for a while, it appears to be very tempting to don your most shapeless outfit judging by some of the ensembles I’ve seen recently, I defy the idea that jet travel has to be daggy. You wouldn’t wear a tracksuit to work even though you’re mostly sitting down for 8 – 10 hours, so you shouldn’t be considering the same on a plane! Comfort and fashion are not mutually exclusive, and it is totally possible to get onto a plane looking fabulous, and still looking fabulous at the other end. (Okay maybe not the hair and skin so much, but the outfit, yes.) For starters, layer up. It’s a fashionista’s travel favourite and plane temperatures are so temperamental it also makes perfect sense. If you cant stand sitting in jeans for extended periods, wearing something like a maxi dress layered with a cardigan in case it gets chilly, a cropped jacket, and even a scarf if you need it now that the weather is colder. This type of outfit is also ideal for cross hemisphere travel when you’re starting out in freezing and landing in summer or vice versa. Regardless of what you’re wearing, funky headwear can solve your post flight hair issues. If you’re travelling into cold weather pack a train-driver style cap, flat cap or beanie, whilst if you’re headed to the sun, you can still get away with a girlie trucker hat or bandana if you’re sporting cropped or skinny jeans. If you’re not a hat person, firstly we suggest you start learning to be pronto! But for now, invest in a headband that will stand the test of time, and use that to detract from limp locks or oily roots. Don't forget, whilst your in your seat you can get comfy, pull out a pair of travel socks and do a swap (just remember your feet will swell), your old comfy cardigan or leggings are also fine. We just ask you to think about this. How would you feel if you got off at the other end and ran into George Clooney getting papped by the snaps - hey it MIGHT happen! We rest our case. Hopefully most of the times we get on planes it’s for something relatively fun, or at least it’s a chance to be stylish in a place other than home. So start your journey exactly how you intend to continue and end it – as the stylish thing you know you are! Want more AskBronny? Subscribe to Styling now. |
