Designers banded together for Vintage Soul to display their eco friendly creations. We headed along with our posse to see what was on offer and was pleasantly surprised to find hidden treasures.
After attending the GPO parade on Wednesday lunchtime it was with a slightly tired heart that I headed off to ELFE – Eco-Luxe Fashion Expose that night. I need not have worried as what greeted me was most certainly a night of lavish fun in an eco friendly environment! As a part of the Melbourne Spring Fashion Week calendar the evening was held at the stylish Alumbra venue showcasing eco fashion designers with eco forward guests in attendance. The idea of the night was to promote eco friendly fashion as being more than just ugly second hand clothes which we all know just isn’t true in the vintage sense of the fashion world. We particularly loved the fact that for every ticket sold a tree was donated to Landcare Australia. So it was really a fashion feel good event! A quirky green carpet as opposed to red welcomed guests along with a cocktail which tasted like a toffee apple had been blended and turned into a drink – yuuummy! Add to this a makeshift marketplace with racks of eco-friendly clothes and the night certainly was proving to be entertaining. My favorites would have to have been Lady Petrova (watch out for our interview coming soon), Made in Donald and the divine EvaQ, which presented whimsical almost fairy like dresses that just seemed to float. A raised catwalk meant that all standing guests had a great view of the clothes with everyone cramming in to get a glimpse of environmentally correct fashion. There was everything from vintage to 80s to cutouts to goth to sequins. I have to say that whilst the designers were pushing the eco angle they certainly did not have to scrimp on style. Some of the designs were simply gorgeous. Designers on display were: Vintage Soul, Lady Petrova, Made In Donald, Rachael Cassar, Eva Q Design, Obikinomi, Boche Collection, Kiss Chacey and Etiko. The must have shoe of the night (and indeed week) turned out to be the Vivienne Westwood ‘Lady Dragon’, a sexy sling back high heel with a ‘V’ shaped peep toe and plastic heart. The Lady Dragon by Vivienne Westwood for melissa® certainly had everyone talking. If you likey like, then buy here. ![]() In terms of what was on offer, there were tshirts for the guys, cocktail dresses for the girls as well as some summer wardrobe options with shorts and blouses. Textures included lace, metallics, feathers, plastic, sequins and cotton. The event was packed with people, fashion with DJs proving an excellent backdrop. MC Brodie Young did an excellent job in keeping the crowd revved up whilst lucky winners on the night took home door prizes. This Eco friendly event sure was everything it boasted and we for one will attend again whilst planning a visit to Vintage Soul really soon.
