Oroton clutches and Calvin Klein dresses;
Stockings and t-shirts and make-up possessions;
Shoes, vintage shirts and skinny leg jeans;
These are a few of my favourite things ….

Maria in The Sound of Music isn’t the only one to have a few favourite things. Here is my list of my top 10 favourite wardrobe items.

1. Lee Super Tube jeans

When in doubt, wear jeans. I absolutely live in them. These black skinny legs have been washed and worn so many times I don’t think they can be considered ‘black’. They’re ripped and worn out, but they’ve been so loyal to me for more than four years and I can’t see myself ever throwing them out even if I had to replace them. Jeans, black jeans especially, go with everything – you can dress it up or dress it down – these are definitely my wardrobe staple.

2. Arvust male Ts

The perfect jeans need the perfect top, and I can’t live without my range of Arvust tops, in ranges of colours and V-neck and U-neck styles. I love buying guys tops, they feel amazing and have a really nice fit on the female body – it’s like wearing your boyfriend’s top which is ‘so hot right now’. They’re simple, and like good boyfriends, reliable. They’re also perfect for bloated days, because you can hide the stomach and still look fashionable!

3. Country Road shirt

My family hates this top! This Country Road shirt belongs to my dad, and it was bought back in the 80s before I was even born. He decided to use it as his painting shirt and it has all these paint stains that refuse to come out. I like wearing this tucked into my black jeans, reviving the 80s in this washed-out, oversized look. I absolutely love this vintage item and how it’s got it’s own story to tell.

4. Ca
lvin Klein dress

This dress is my most unbelievable purchase and brings new meanings to discounted price tags! I purchased this from TJ Maxx’s when I was in America back in December 2007. Although it was winter in the states, when I got back to Melbourne’s 40-degree New Years Eve, it was the perfect accompaniment to take me into the New Year. The original price tag was $350, and I still have my receipt of purchase for $15! For those of you who have seen Step Up 2, I am certain Andie wears this dress in one of the scenes.

5. Armani Exchange dress

Armani Exchange – beautiful pieces with perfect price tags. This dress is my most recent buy, and naturally an addition to my collection of LBDs. The silk fabric, the delicate detail and timeless colour, makes this the perfect evening dress. This dress is the epitome of prettiness and I always feel good about myself wearing something that I love and something that I am comfortable in.

6. SABA bag

I usually always opt for black handbags, but this whisky-coloured SABA tote checked most of the boxes for my criteria of the perfect handbag. It’s slouchy, it’s big, it’s good quality leather, it has zips which aren’t too OTT, it has the right amount of compartments and it is perfect for my everyday use! What more can you want from a handbag!?

7. Oroton Clutch

My Oroton clutch was an impulse buy when I remembered I needed a clutch to complete my outfit for my cousin’s wedding. I’m not the biggest fan of clutches because they’re small and impractical for me (they can’t carry my whole life in them!), but this one has card space and compartments to put money in, with a zip for security. The Oroton embellishment adds a touch of class and character to this cute investment of mine!

8. Sandler shoes

These crocodile-print Sandler shoes have been with me from the beginning of my high-heeled days. While the heel is not a fashionable stiletto, they are the most comfortable pair of heels you can sink your feet into! While at the end of a night I see girls with shoes in hand, sitting down, or stumbling around from soreness, I’m the last one standing, feet intact, never feeling the need to wear party feet!

9. Stockings

I believe that stockings are underrated. They stop your feet from getting sore in shoes; they instantly dress up an outfit and fashionably keep you warm. Black stockings are a wardrobe staple for me. I have so many pairs because a girl can never have enough. I’ve also taken to the lace stockings lately, I feel more feminine and it has it’s own edge to an outfit.

10. Clinique foundation

Make-up on your face is like accessories to your outfit. The perfect shade really will make or break your beauty look. My make-up brand of choice is Clinique, because they are skin friendly and don’t irritate me, and it feels natural rather than other brands which feel like you’re wearing a layer of cement on your face. Clinique’s super-balanced foundation in Alabaster is my pale, winter shade, giving me natural coverage for confidence.

"Money has nothing to do with being stylish. It's about being born with that inner eye and having the confidence to convey a sense of yourself outwardly. You can't buy that. It's genetic." Sarah Mower, Fashion Journalist
