 Nikki Hagar turned her passion for shoes into profit after launching her own shoe label, Peep Toe Shoes in 2006. Three years on, her collections have blossomed from a tiny sprout into a highly successful entrepreneurial business. Pre-destined to enter and leave a recognisable mark in the fashion world, Nikki’s fate may well have derived from growing up in a business-savvy family, with both her parents owning clothing stores. Wasting no time, she opened her first boutique, Boutikki, in her buoyant 20s after working as a store manager and later, a fashion buyer in Sydney. Still, her love for shoes was unyielding, and her ‘itchy feet’ began walking towards the prospect of opening up another boutique. “From the very beginning, stilettos have always been my absolute passion. I love the way a pair of stilettos can change a woman’s behaviour and elongate her physique. My shoes are made for fashion savvy, sophisticated women who are not afraid to express their individuality”. Nikki’s love of stilettos can certainly be appreciated by any stilts aficionado. Since the 1930s, women have been wearing platform shoes but it was only during the 70s and 80s that they truly reigned. Legendary designers of these creations includes Salvatore Farragamo, Andre Perugia and David Evins who crafted their designs out of wood, cork, and other materials as there was a shortage of leather and a war ban on rubber. Peep Toe Shoes have been paparazzi snapped on some of the world’s most beautiful and talented feet. From Nicky Hilton, Kelly Rowland and the Kardashian trio to our own home-grown stars including Miranda Kerr, Jennifer Hawkins and Kate Richie.
