Dear Bronny Can I wear pants to a ball? From Sarah
ANSWER Dear Sarah, This depends on the type of ball you are attending! So it might be best to answer this question based on types of balls. First of all a Ball is an occasion where you will be attending a function by invitation in a dresscode situation. If the ball says ‘fancy dress’ and is themed them you could definitely wear any kind of pants – perhaps you could go as a Genie and wear Harem Pants! However I think you probably already know this and are actually referring to a formal occasion. My answer is yes you can, however it depends on the pant. For example Lisa Ho designed a gorgeous 20s inspired pleated ‘kulotz’ inspired pant with rouched halter neck top. When the outfit was worn together you could not tell the outfit was actually a trouser outfit – simply stunning and definitely an acceptable type of pant to wear to a Ball. My suggestion is to use your judgement, something like this Lisa Ho out fit that I have described is always going to be okay, on the other hand the trousers that you wear to work are not going to be okay. If the event is a formal or blacktie affair then you need to make sure that your outfit is suitable for this type of event. Pants, are okay, however it depends on the design of the pant and what it is being worn with. If in doubt submit a picky of your trousers to the AskBronny Clotheshorse community (launching soon) and see what they think, they will no doubt have an answer for you in no time at all!
