Go Jump

Written by Tara Ramsay
Jump back in time, with the return of the Jump / Playsuit taking summer by storm. These babies are back to help you look super hot while you play!

The playsuit and its very close cousin the jumpsuit.  The playsuit was born first and made it's way onto the fashion scene in the late 40's early 50's appearing on Hollywood Pin-ups, such as Marilyn Monroe and Betty Grable.

It's an elegant classic, usually strapless with short shorts all in one, which was in those days thought of as more of a bathing suit!  The style is now more wearable with looser fits and funky flirty fabrics. Grab a cropped jacket and a cute pair of colorful heels for a night out on the town, or team with a pair of flip flops and head to the beach to feel like a Hollywood movie star.

Great stockists for playsuits at the moment include www.zimmermanwear.com and up and coming label Shakuhachi, which can purchased at www.mycatwalk.com.au

Next enter the younger cousin from the late 70's-thru 80's the jumpsuit.  I think every female member of my family had a jumpsuit in one form or another, some had long sleeve with large collars, others had three quarter, loose leg, lycra jumpsuits.  Quite amusing and I'm still cursing my mum for not having kept all of her fab jumpsuits and playsuits!

When looking at purchasing jumpsuits consider the fabric as well as the style, no super skinny, lycra tight jumpsuit looks good (hate to break it to you, Madonna).  That was one form of the jumpsuit that should comfortably stay in the 80's.  Choose a light flowy fabric for a laid back yet still elegant feel.

Great for a night out worn with heels or wedges and a great clutch, or if you having a day out shopping great teamed with flats or flip flops and easier than taking off a million different items of clothing to try things on.

Whilst having a search on the net I found a nice one on www.shopbop.com by Ella Moss, be sure to check out www.asos.com or www.nextag.com (who compare prices from lots of different websites!!) for some other funky styles or if your after a more authentic style Jumpsuit/Playsuit definitely check out www.ebay.com for cute vintage pieces at great prices.

All the hottest stars have been spotted in these latest trends, including Nicole Richie and gal pal fashionista Mischa Barton in playsuits and Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Simpson sporting Jumpsuits on various occasions looking hot to trot.

I was in the change rooms of a large department store just the other day, and I spotted a girl who was trying on a Zimmermann playsuit, she looked a bit unsure about it, so being the fashionista that I am I felt the need to add my thoughts, I told her it looked totally cute and suited her (which it did), she just had to get used to it. When I went home and put on the TV I realized the girl in the change rooms was an actress from a commercial!

So whether you follow the actress in the change rooms, Scarlett or Jessica and go jump or Nicole and Mischa and go play, night or day, the suits this summer will lead the way!
