Who is Chloe you may ask? Described as sassy, sexy and ultra cool, Chloe brings a feminine / street look to the fashion table. Get the lowdown on this hot 'it' label.
The name Chloe was chosen for its warm youthful, feminine appeal, which the label has stayed true to for just over 50 years. Chloe didn’t stick to the formality of the 50’s: creating amazing flowing pieces which were well ahead of the times and described as “Luxury prêt-a-porter”. In 1966 Karl Lagerfeld joined the Chloe house, where he stayed for almost twenty years designing collection after collection of brilliantly made, romantic women’s wear. He was (and still is today) considered one of the most iconic designers of the 70’s in the fashion world. Chloe lovers the beginning included Bridgette Bardot, Grace Kelly and the ever stylish, Jackie Kennedy who would stop by the boutique and buy up big. In the mid-eighties after Karl Lagerfeld had departed the luxury goods company Richermont bought the stylish fashion house and helped it receive recognition all around the fashion world. In 1997 Stella McCartney entered, many had their worries that she was too green having just graduated from Central St Martin’s design college, Stella who has proved them all wrong showing she is not just a Beatles daughter but a very talented designer, who helped reinvent Chloe with her romantic/ yet streetwise collections, and prove them wrong she did, with sales of the Chloe fashion house tripling, yes, the girl can deliver. In 2001 Stella McCartney left to start her own fashion house under her own name in a joint venture with Gucci. Phoebe Philo jumped in and took over as creative Director and until 2005 continued the Chloe legacy, which now has shoes and bags to add to the repertoire, creating magical, feminine yet street wise pieces. On Oct 11th Paulo Melim Anderson was appointed new chief designer and his first collection for the label will launch in March. Swedish born Anderson comes from Italian fashion company Marni, and it will be interesting to see where Chloe takes us next. The new Chloe cult followers taking over from Bridgette, Grace & Kelly include Mischa Barton, Kirsten Dunst, Kylie Minouge, Natalie Portman, and plenty of other Hollywood A-listers spotted wearing or carrying around Chloe’s latest creations. Head to www.net-a-porter.com if you’re looking at investing in a Chloe item. (Make sure you have plenty of credit on your card if you do) Chloe pieces are not cheap, but if can be afforded definitely worth it, the pieces are well made and will make you look like a million bucks! If you love Chloe consider buying the Chloe book, with information, History and Pics all dedicated to the stylish French label. It retails at US$18.95 published by Assouline, and can be found at www.amazon.com. If you cant afford the pieces the book is the next best thing! Head to the the official website www.Chloe.com to get a further description of Chloe, the French label founded in 1952 by Gaby Aghion (an Egyptian born pariseienne and partner Jacques Lanior. |
